Wills Domain
Situated high on the southern edge of a vine covered valley Wills Domain offers serene Northern views from its Cellar Door and Restaurant. A very popular existing Cellar Door is the heart of the family owned business; a personalised outlet for the tasting and sale of their award winning wines.
The brief for the new building was to maintain and extend the relaxed and informal ambience that prevailed in the Cellar Door to a new Restaurant and Art Gallery.
The respectful solution was to borrow the form of the existing building for the new Art Gallery, a simple gabled roof form, and to informally cover the space created in between for the Restaurant. The enclosure is as close to ‘open’ as possible; fully glazed bi-fold doors on north and south elevations provide maximum connection of interior with exterior. A tensile roof membrane further breaks down the sense of enclosure with a delicate skin of subtle translucency.
This building was designed by Clayton Lindley during his employment with local Winery Designer Castle Rock Design.
