Eagle Bay 2 – Reference
Working with Clayton on our dream home in Eagle Bay has been the most wonderful experience. Following our decision to build while still living in Europe, we knew we needed an architect and project manager who understood our needs, while taking ownership of the design as well as the building process without constant supervision. Of the various architects and designers we met, the chemistry with Clayton was obvious from the start.
Clayton loves nature, and ensured that his contemporary design was going to exploit the unique ocean view location to the fullest, while working within all the restrictions related to building envelope and height, fire resistant materials, and so on. The house has been built to minimise emissions, relying on natural ventilation with large roof overhangs to keep the sun out in summer, and floor to ceiling glass for maximum sun in winter. We have solar panels, solar pool heating, and a solar hot water system with hydronic under-floor heating.
Rammed earth, glass and steel are distinguishing design features, as is the sparing use of 90 degree angles. Clayton was also involved in the selection process of the builder, Tallwood Constructions, who did an amazing job. Given the extensive upfront planning, we faced few variations during the building process, which was supervised by Clayton on our behalf.
To sum it up, we’ve really enjoyed working with Clayton who is a true professional, a real team player and great communicator and we are living our dream as a result.
